Magi tells the story of Charlie the con man, to whom he had loaned eight dollars. One night the Magic ran into Charlie in a bar and reminded him of his debt. A Con man repays a debt very suspiciously. Charlie offered to pay on the spot and removed some money from his wallet. He then proceeded to count out the eight dollars in a most suspicious way. It seems clear that he slumsily counted four bills as eight by turning them over and counting them twice--that is, once for each side of each bill. The Magic objects and offers to show him how to count magically. somehow, those four bills just shown on both sides now total $18. The Magician pockets the $18 with glee.
