HypnoCard. Look into my eyes, you are getting sleepy... You are getting hungry for novelty and new diversion... I grew up reading Spiderman Comics - you know, the real ones drawn by Steve Ditko. Well, amongst the adverts for Sea Monkeys, X-ray Specs and the wonderful prospect of delivering GRIT (!), I was always drawn to the Ads for those little disks that promised you Rasputin like powers, particularly over the opposite sex; if I remember right. Boy, did I want one of those. In fact, if my genetic material was to survive my generation - I needed one of those! Hypnocard started life as a light piece of entertainment, inspired by such outlandish claims. The challenge we set was to produce a pocket effect that would simulate hypnosis. Further more, it could be used by anyone at any time; no experience needed. Now, at this point the real hypnotists are gathering with their lit torches around the Castle of Artifacts. But, hey...loosen up a bit--will you--this is just a bit of fun! We worked on the idea of a visual dual reality back in Nathan Spark's excellent book Tattoo (a classic, buy it). In that effect, the audience saw one image and the performer saw a different one. Hypnocard is an evolution of this concept. However, to add subtlety Hypnocard deals with the use of words to suggest images. Basically, the subject sees the same image as the audience, but in a very different way! What do you get?
