Ellis Stanyon was a professional performing magician and teacher and, while touring, wrote and published a series of 177 periodicals simply titled "Magic." These periodicals were published from 1900 to 1914 and then again from 1919 to 1920 (Five years were taken out for World War I). Here are all 177 issues printed in three hardcover volumes. Covers almost everything you can imagine in the field of magic. Tricks, book reviews, magic news from the time, magician's photos, biographies, editorials, advertisements, bibliographies, etc. There are literally thousands of tricks from close up to stage, the reprint of the seven volume series by Stanyon titled "Bibliographie of Conjuring", a series on "Lightning Calculations," Henry Ridgely Evans' articles on "Ancient Tricks," and Stanyon's "Explanatory Programmes" in which he reviews magicians' acts and offers his explanations of how their acts were performed. His explanation of the "Great Handcuff Release" act was only available to subscribers at the time. These explanations irritated the performers of the time. An amazing set of books that belongs in any serious student’s library.
